Plastering in Pleven

We apply machine and hand plaster on new walls, after the wiring and plumbing have been replaced and over uneven old surfaces – so the walls are ready for skim coating, paint or tiles.

Scope and approach

What you get

The type of plaster is chosen for the room: gypsum plaster for bedrooms, living rooms and hallways, lime-cement plaster for the bathroom, toilet and other damp rooms. Machine application is faster and more even over large areas, while hand plastering is for patch repairs, window and door reveals and small areas.

Before we start, we check the walls with a laser and a straightedge, because the deviations determine the thickness of the coat and the amount of material. If a wall is badly out of true, we tell you in advance whether drywall lining would be the more sensible option.

Technical detail: mesh at the joints

Brick and concrete move differently with temperature changes and as the building settles. That is why the plaster is reinforced with mesh where they meet – without it, a crack often appears there.

  • Checking the walls with a laser and a straightedge, and tapping for hollow areas
  • Removing crumbling areas and priming to suit the surface – a bonding primer for smooth concrete
  • Reinforcing mesh at the joints between brick and concrete and over filled-in channels
  • Corner beads on the edges and straight reveals around windows and doors
  • Gypsum plaster for dry rooms and lime-cement plaster for the bathroom and toilet
  • Protection of the windows, floors and services, and cleaning up after work
When to call us

From the problem to the solution

The most common situations people call us about, and how we approach them.

Common problems

  • Old plaster that sounds hollow and crumbles when tapped
  • Uneven walls and corners that furniture and tiles do not sit flush against
  • Cracks along the joints between brick and concrete columns or beams
  • Open channels and holes after the electrical wiring and plumbing have been replaced
  • Damaged reveals after the windows have been replaced

How we approach them

  • We remove hollow areas down to a sound base instead of plastering over them
  • We rule the surface flat along guides and check the corners with a laser
  • Where there are existing cracks along joints, we remove the plaster around them and replaster with mesh
  • We fill the channels with compound and mesh, so they do not show after painting
  • We form the reveals with corner beads and bring them tight up to the frame

A good fit when

  • When you have new brick or aerated concrete walls without plaster
  • When, after demolition and new wiring and plumbing, the walls are full of channels and holes
  • When tiles are going into the bathroom or kitchen and the walls have to be flat
  • When the walls are so uneven that skim coating alone is not enough

Process

How the work runs

We organise the work around the specifics of the city and the property, planning access, logistics and stages.

  1. A site visit where we measure deviations with a laser and a straightedge and tap for hollow areas

  2. Removing crumbling areas, cleaning, priming and mesh at the joints between materials

  3. Fixing corner beads and guides, which set the plane of the wall

  4. Applying the plaster by machine or by hand, ruling it off with a straightedge and smoothing it

  5. Checking the flatness, cleaning, and advice on ventilation until the plaster has fully dried

Price

What affects the price

The price is set after a site visit to the walls, because their deviations determine the thickness of the coat and the amount of material.

The final cost is confirmed after a site visit and measuring the areas room by room.

See the price list
  • Type of plaster – gypsum or lime-cement
  • Wall deviations and the coat thickness needed
  • Preparation – removing old plaster, priming and mesh
  • Number of corners, reveals and openings finished with beads
  • Machine or hand application, depending on the area
  • Floor level, lift and getting the material to the site

Questions and answers

Plastering in Pleven: questions and answers

Machine plaster is faster and gives a more even coat for whole rooms and new walls. Hand plaster is more practical for patch repairs, reveals and small areas, where it is not worth setting up a machine.

In bathrooms and toilets we use lime-cement plaster, because gypsum plaster does not tolerate prolonged moisture. Lime-cement plaster is also a better base for tiles in wet areas.

It depends on the type and thickness of the coat, the temperature and ventilation – the plaster manufacturer gives a guideline. Skim coat and paint are applied only once the plaster has dried completely.

Not always. Sound old plaster stays, while hollow, crumbling and cracked areas are taken back to a sound base – we decide after tapping the walls on site.

Gypsum plaster is smoothed, and after it a thin finishing skim coat is usually enough before painting. Lime-cement plaster is rougher – it is skim coated under paint, but not under tiles.
