Scope and approach

What you get

The problems usually come from a few places: loose socket joints on old cast-iron pipes, sections with no fall, dried-out traps or a riser without ventilation. So we first find where the leak or smell is coming from, and only then propose a scope – a local repair or replacement of the line.

We lay new sections with an even fall and access points for cleaning, and we water-test them before they are closed into the floor or wall. We work on the internal sewer pipes – in the home, the risers and the basement – up to the point where they join the building's sewer service connection.

Technical detail: why there is a sewer smell

The smell often comes not from a cracked pipe but from a trap with no water in it. A floor drain that is rarely used dries out, and with a riser that has no ventilation, the water in the traps is sucked out when the floors above use water.

  • Finding the source of the leak or smell – a socket joint, trap, floor drain or ventilation
  • Replacing old and cracked sections with new pipes and transitions to the part that stays
  • New pipe runs with an even fall when a sink, bath, shower or toilet is moved
  • Access points where the line can be cleaned
  • Repair or replacement of the horizontal main in the basement up to the building's sewer service connection
  • A water test before the pipes are closed into the floor or wall
When to call us

From the problem to the solution

The most common situations people call us about, and how we approach them.

Common problems

  • A damp patch on the ceiling of the neighbour below your bathroom or kitchen
  • A sewer smell in the bathroom, kitchen or basement
  • Repeated blockages in the same section
  • Cracked cast-iron pipes or a sagging horizontal main in the basement
  • The need for new pipe runs when sanitary ware is moved during a renovation

How we approach them

  • We check the traps, floor drain and socket joints above the patch before any floor or wall is opened up
  • We look for the source of the smell – a dried-out trap, a loose socket joint or blocked ventilation
  • We check the fall and, if needed, replace the section instead of unblocking it yet again
  • Where the horizontal main in the basement has sagged, we restore its fall and replace cracked cast-iron sections
  • We plan new pipe runs so that the fall fits within the floor or behind the cladding

A good fit when

  • When the neighbour below has a patch on the ceiling and you suspect your sewer pipes
  • When there is a sewer smell even though the traps are clean
  • When unblocking has shown that a section has sagged or has no fall
  • When you are renovating a bathroom or kitchen and moving the sink, bath or toilet

Process

How the work runs

We organise the work around the specifics of the city and the property, planning access, logistics and stages.

  1. Site visit and a check of where the problem comes from – a leak, smell or blockage

  2. A proposed scope – local repair, replacement of a section or a new line

  3. Removing the old section at an agreed time if the line is also used by neighbours

  4. Laying the new pipes with a fall, transitions to the old line and access points

  5. Water test, checking the joints and closing up the pipe run

Price

What affects the price

The price depends on how much of the line is replaced and how hard it is to reach, so we set it after a site visit.

When the leak is under the floor, the exact scope sometimes only becomes clear after opening up – in that case we agree it with you before going ahead.

See the price list
  • The length and location of the section – in the home, in the riser or in the basement
  • Access – exposed pipes, pipes behind cladding or in the floor screed
  • The material of the old line – cast iron, asbestos cement (Eternit) or plastic
  • The number of joints, branches and access points
  • Opening up and reinstating floors, cladding or ceilings
  • Work in shared parts of the building, which has to be coordinated and done at agreed times

Questions and answers

Sewer repair in Plovdiv: questions and answers

We check the traps, the floor drain and the visible socket joints above the patch and run water through each fixture in turn. This way the source can often be found without unnecessary opening up.

If they are old cast iron or Eternit, the bathroom renovation is the right moment – afterwards, access is through the new tiles. If the line is plastic and in good condition, replacing the branches and traps is often enough.

Yes, if the new pipe run can be laid with the required fall to the riser. The further away the new position is, the more depth is needed in the floor or behind the cladding – we check this at the site visit.

Yes. The horizontal main in the basement collects the risers of your section of the building, so the work is agreed with the building's owners' association and done at agreed times when that section does not use water.

The sections we install are covered by our plumbing warranty – 6 years. Old sections that remain in place are not covered by it.

Book a site visit for your sewer pipes and we will find where the problem is coming from.

After the site visit, you will receive a written proposal – a local repair or replacement of the section.
