Scope and approach

What you get

The result is decided before the first tile goes on: the base must be flat, sound and primed, and in wet areas waterproofed. The layout determines where the tiling starts, so there are no narrow cut strips in visible places.

The adhesive is chosen to suit the tile and the base – porcelain tiles and large formats need an improved adhesive. In internal corners and around the bath we use silicone instead of grout, because there is movement there.

Technical detail: back-buttering

With porcelain tiles and large formats, adhesive is applied both to the base and to the back of the tile. That way no voids are left underneath – voids sound hollow and crack the tile under load.

  • Checking flatness with a straightedge and priming the base before tiling
  • A layout that puts the cut pieces in less noticeable places
  • Adhesive to suit the type and size of tile, with back-buttering for large formats
  • Levelling clips, so there are no steps between neighbouring tiles
  • Precise cut-outs for pipes, sockets and drains, and edges finished with a trim or a mitre
  • Grouting, silicone in the internal corners and cleaning of the tiled surfaces
When to call us

From the problem to the solution

The most common situations people call us about, and how we approach them.

Common problems

  • Tiles that sound hollow or crack on impact
  • Steps between neighbouring tiles and uneven grout lines
  • Narrow cut strips in visible places, for example by the door
  • Water that pools in the shower instead of draining to the floor drain
  • Darkened, cracked or crumbling grout

How we approach them

  • We apply adhesive with a notched trowel and, where needed, to the back of the tile as well
  • We check flatness with a straightedge during tiling, not only at the end
  • We set the starting point from the door or the centre of the wall, not from the first corner
  • We build the slope towards the drain into the base before tiling begins
  • We choose the grout to suit the area, and for the shower and kitchen splashback we suggest epoxy grout

A good fit when

  • When you are renovating a bathroom or toilet and need new wall and floor tiling
  • When you are laying porcelain tiles in a kitchen, hallway or living room
  • When you have chosen large-format tiles, which need a flat base
  • When you want a kitchen splashback or a single wall in tiles

Process

How the work runs

We organise the work around the specifics of the city and the property, planning access, logistics and stages.

  1. Site visit to check the base, measure the areas and agree the tiles, grout and laying pattern

  2. Levelling and priming the base and, in wet areas, waterproofing with tape in the corners

  3. Planning the layout and marking out the rows relative to the room's axes and the door

  4. Tiling with levelling clips, cutting and finishing the corners, openings and edges

  5. Grouting once the adhesive has set, silicone in the corners and cleaning

Price

What affects the price

The price is set after a site visit, because the tile size, the laying pattern and the condition of the base affect the labour more than the area itself.

The final cost is confirmed after a site visit and once the tiles have been chosen.

See the price list
  • Tile size – mosaics and large formats take more time
  • Type of material – wall tiles, floor tiles or porcelain tiles
  • Condition of the base and whether levelling or demolition is needed
  • Laying pattern – straight, diagonal, herringbone or with a border
  • Number of corners, openings, niches and edges with a trim or a mitre
  • Type of grout – cement-based or epoxy

Questions and answers

Tiling in Burgas: questions and answers

Sometimes – if the old tiles are firmly bonded, without cracks, and the higher level does not get in the way of the doors. They are then treated with a bonding primer, and any hollow or damp areas are removed.

Once the adhesive has set – the time is stated by the manufacturer and depends on the temperature. With standard adhesives, this is usually the next day.

For the walls and dry parts of the floor, a good cement-based grout is enough. In the shower and on a kitchen splashback, epoxy grout does not absorb water or dirt and is easier to clean.

Usually around 10% for straight laying and more for diagonal or herringbone. Buy the whole quantity at once and from one batch, because different batches vary in shade.

Yes – in the bathroom and shower area, waterproofing goes on before the tiles, with tape in the corners and sleeves around the pipes. In the quote it is listed as a separate stage.

Book a site visit and we will check the base before you buy the tiles.
