Scope and approach

What you get

Wood absorbs and releases moisture, so parquet goes in after the wet work in a renovation, acclimatises in the room and is laid on a dry, flat base. Otherwise it swells, or gaps open up between the boards.

Solid parquet is glued to the base, then sanded, filled at the joints and finished with lacquer or oil. Three-layer parquet is often factory-lacquered and can be glued or installed floating, with an underlay and an expansion gap around the perimeter.

Technical detail: the perimeter gap

Wood shrinks in dry air and expands in humid air. That is why a gap is always left along the walls and later covered by the skirting board – without it, the parquet swells in the first humid summer.

  • Measuring the moisture of the base before laying
  • Levelling and priming the base when needed
  • Laying straight, herringbone or in squares – glued down or floating
  • Sanding, filling the joints and several coats of lacquer or oil
  • Expansion gap around the perimeter, skirting boards and transition strips to the tiles
  • Restoration of old parquet – re-gluing loose boards and replacing damaged ones
When to call us

From the problem to the solution

The most common situations people call us about, and how we approach them.

Common problems

  • Parquet that creaks or gives underfoot
  • Gaps opening between the boards in winter
  • Swollen or warped boards after a leak or on a damp base
  • Worn lacquer, scratches and darkened patches on old parquet
  • A step at the transition to the tiles in the hallway or kitchen

How we approach them

  • We level the base and glue the boards down fully, with no voids underneath
  • We acclimatise the parquet and advise you on keeping the right humidity in your home
  • We measure the moisture and, with local damage, replace only the damaged boards where possible
  • Before sanding, we check how much wood is left above the tongue and whether the parquet can be restored
  • We plan the heights so that the transition to the tiles is level

A good fit when

  • When you want a wooden floor in the living room, bedrooms or hallway
  • When the old parquet is sound but the lacquer is worn and scratched
  • When you want herringbone or another pattern
  • When the screed is ready and the parquet has to go in at the right point in the renovation

Process

How the work runs

We organise the work around the specifics of the city and the property, planning access, logistics and stages.

  1. Site visit, choice of parquet and laying pattern, and measuring the moisture of the base

  2. Levelling and priming the base, and acclimatising the parquet in the room

  3. Laying – glued to the base or floating – with an expansion gap around the perimeter

  4. Sanding, filling and lacquer or oil, when the parquet is not factory-finished

  5. Fitting skirting boards and transition strips, cleaning, and care instructions

Price

What affects the price

The price is set after a site visit, because the type of parquet, the laying pattern and the preparation of the base change the labour considerably.

The final cost is confirmed after a site visit and once the parquet has been chosen.

See the price list
  • Type of parquet – solid or three-layer, factory-lacquered or finished on site
  • Laying pattern – straight, herringbone or another pattern
  • Glued to the base or floating on an underlay
  • Condition and moisture of the base, and the need for levelling
  • Sanding and the number of coats of lacquer or oil
  • Skirting boards, transition strips and the number of separate rooms

Questions and answers

Parquet flooring in Burgas: questions and answers

Solid parquet is made of solid wood and can be sanded many times. Three-layer parquet has a top layer of fine hardwood on a more stable base, reacts less to moisture and is often factory-lacquered.

As long as the manufacturer specifies – usually longer for solid parquet than for three-layer. Before that, the plaster, skim coats and screeds must have dried.

If the boards are sound and there is enough wood above the tongue, the parquet is sanded, filled and lacquered again. Loose boards are re-glued, and water-damaged ones are replaced.

Lacquer forms a hard protective layer and is easy to look after with everyday cleaning. Oil keeps the natural look of the wood and allows local repairs, but needs to be renewed periodically.

Yes, if the manufacturer says the parquet is suitable for it – it is usually fully glued to the base. Three-layer parquet usually copes with underfloor heating better than solid parquet.
